"Coverage of Indian Election Results at Embassy of India"
from 1200-1400 hrs. on Friday 16th May 2014

1.Embassy of India, Belgrade is pleased to inform that live coverage of Indian General Election Results is being organised at the premises of Embassy of India at Djordja Radojlovica 7A, Dedinje, 11040, Belgrade, Serbia from 1200-1400 hrs. on 16th May 2014.

2.The general elections in India are the largest democratic event in the history of mankind. India is the largest democracy in the world and the scale of general elections in India is greater than that of USA and Europe combined. The mega elections to constitute the 16th Lok Sabha in India having 543 Parliamentary Constituencies, were organised in nine phases from 07 April to 12 May 2014. Over 550 million electorate which is about 66.4% of total registered electorate, used their voting rights, setting a new record for India.

3.More than 1.7 million Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) were used in approximately 9,30,000 Polling Stations in the country for holding the general elections. Moreover, more than 11 million security personnel and 5.5 million civilians were deployed to assist during the elections. According to media reports, the total expenditure on this election was about US$ 6 billion. There were 6 national parties, about 50 state parties and more than 1600 registered unrecognised parties participated in the election process.

4.The results of the general elections will be declared on 16 May 2014. Media persons will have the opportunity to cover the live results of the general elections in the Embassy premises.
