Commemoration of Mahatma Gandhi’s 145th Birth Anniversary
( born 1869 – died 1948 )

1. Embassy of India in Belgrade is pleased to announce that the Embassy is commemorating Mahatma Gandhi’s 145th Birth Anniversary on October 2, 2014.

2. The UN General Assembly Resolution of 15 June 2007 has declared the 2nd of October ( Gandhi’s birthday ) as the International Day of Non-Violence, because of the universal appeal and relevance of non-violence, with the idea to support a “culture of peace, tolerance, understanding and non-violence”.

3. In the same year ( in June 2007 ), a Gandhi Memorial Bust, the gift of the Government of India to the people of Serbia, was installed in New Belgrade in the street that already carried his name. The Embassy of India in collaboration with Indian Cultural Centre, Belgrade, will be organising floral tributes at the Gandhi Bust at 10.00 hrs on October 02, 2014. All those interested are invited to attend the event.

4. In addition, the feature film „Gandhi“ with Serbian sub-title will be screened at the National Library of Serbia at 13.00 hrs on 1st October 2014. RTS 2 is also telecasting the film „The Making of the Mahatma“ with Serbian sub-title at 22.00 hrs on October 2nd, 2014.
